I have finally come to a painful conclusion. There is not substitute for salt. It may be a killer in large doses, but I love it. Oh yes! Pass the salt please.
Then I started thinking. I thought, "Hey, as a Christian I am supposed to be salt!" No wonder I love it. We are related! Actually I am not supposed to be salt. I am salt. Matthew 5:13 ¶ "Ye are the salt of the earth:..." It's not a choice. It is what I am! If you are a Christian, it is what you are as well!
Here is my point. Just as in my food I could not find a suitable substitute for salt; there is also no substitute for the salt of Christianity. Look at what has happened as men have looked for a substitute? They have even convinced themselves that Christianity is a problem. Even worse, are the Christians who are desperately trying to bill themselves as a substitute for good old fashioned Christianity!!! You can't do that. There is not substitute for salt!
Why don't we stop trying to invent new ways to reach the world, and try the ones Jesus gave us? Why don't we stop hiding our saltiness. We are the salt of the earth. Whether they like it or not, we are here for their good! It's time we stop being ashamed and start letting people know again that there is no substitute for salt. Be a Christian. You have a job to do that cannot be substituted.
Are you behaving as salt? If not, you are not being true to what you are. You are the salt of the earth. Act like it. Be a voice for Bible morals. Stand up for truth. Don't be pushed aside as if your opinion doesn't matter. Actually your opinion doesn't matter. The TRUTH does!! Get out of the salt shaker and go salt something! Do the people at work know you are salt? Why not give them a taste of Christianity tomorrow?
In the mean time, while you are considering what I have said...can you please pass the salt?
