Just the other day I was listening to a radio program as I was driving home. I had no specific reason for listening, other than that it was late, and I was bored, and well...you get the picture.
Anyway...as I was listening the host of the program mentioned that he was going to be discussing some very important topics. One of these topics got my attention. He said he would be discussing the subject of putting Jesus first in our lives. That sounded important. Then, without a break he said, "Yes, tonight we are going to be talking about putting Jesus first. We will probably discuss this in the second hour of the show." WAIT!!!!! I couldn't believe what I just heard. I couldn't help but laugh out loud! Putting Jesus first in the second hour! LOL!!! This was a two hour show, and he was putting Jesus first in the last hour!
After I got done laughing my head off, I started thinking. Isn't this just exactly what so many of us do every day? We claim that putting Jesus first is the most important thing to a Christian, but we only squeeze him in if we have time. How many of us are putting Jesus first in the last hour. He deserves the first hour. He deserves the best of our time.
I am thankful that I heard that radio program. It gave me a good laugh, and also caused me to think seriously about the position of Christ in my own life. Think about it.

I think most often I find that when the "last hour" arrives, and I make time then for Jesus, I discover that I missed out on a blessing or some much needed help in the "first hour". On a small scale this often happens with daily devotions. I have time earlier in the day but put it off till later and when I finally get around to it, God shows me something I could have used earlier that day. On a grander scale, I sure don't want to be looking back on my life down the road and wonder what it could have been like with the right priorities. Can't get too busy with the "necessary" things and forget the "needful" things right?
